Ways to Protect Your Portable Hotspot

Here in this section, we are going to discuss the steps that will help you to protect the portable hotspot. Let’s get started:

1. Set a Strong Password

The most important thing is to create a strong password at the access point that is hard to crack. Now, you might be wondering what format of the password you should provide so that your mobile hotspot is in safe hands. The best option is to go for a long password that is unique and not easy to guess. You must also ensure that the password is changed frequently.

Another thing that you should keep in mind is that the password that you have set should not be your name, phone number, or any other characters that are easy to crack. Moreover, you should ensure that you use WPA2 hotspot security for securing your password. Apart from WPA2 security, there are also a couple of security options that you can use like WPA, WEP. But it is recommended to use WPA2 because it is secure than WEP and WPA.

2. Unique SSID

Well, when you start setting configuration for the mobile hotspot of your android phone, it will provide you with a default “Service Set Identifier” such SSID is very easy to guess.

In this case, you should rename the SSID so that the hackers can’t guess the name and enter into your network.

3. Use VPN

To provide better safety to your portable hotspot, you should install a VPN on your android mobile. Apart from these, you must install a VPN on all the connected devices in your house. If you have a smart home setup, then it is recommended to invest some amount in a VPN router as this will provide strong security and will ensure safety from hackers.

You can invest in a premium VPN service as this will not cost a hefty amount and will allow you to connect up to 5 devices without hampering the security of any of your connected devices.

4. Use Antivirus Software

The antivirus software of your phone should be checked, whether it is updated periodically or not. Most people think those antiviruses are a solution for PC and desktop.

But now hackers have found ways to hack the smartphone because they find weak links there. So you must check whether the antivirus software of your phone is appropriately updated or not.

5. Port Filtering and Blocking Features

In some of the hotspots, the option of port filtering is present, and that is for security mechanisms. If you don’t want access to email traffic HTTP, FTP, or any other services these days, you can do so. Like if you don’t want to use HTTP, you can disable it on the configuration page of the port filtering option.

If you want to reduce threats, then you must focus on switching off the ports that are not necessary on your hotspot because these are the routes that the hackers utilize in and out of your mobile network. So turn off the unnecessary ports. It will reduce the risk associated with your mobile hotspot.

Conclusion

If you follow all these steps, there is less chance to get hacked. Here’s a bonus tip: Don’t Give Out Your Portable Hotspot Password to Strangers. Hope, you found it helpful.
