Control Your PC with Google Assistant
Though Windows 10 has the Cortana feature, most of the users prefer Google Assistant. In this article, we will discuss the way to control your PC with Google Assistant. Before we start, we should know the things we will need.
Google Assistant on Phone: To check the service is enabled on the device or not, long-press the home button. If the service is available, then it will simply say “Hi, how can I help? If not, then check instructions to enable the service. Or, you can install it from the app store.
IFTT: IFTTT stands for “if this then that”. This is a web-based free service and creates mainly applets. Applets are chains of conditional statements.
Pushbullet: Another thing that we need is Pushbullet. Pushbullet is the easiest way to get links, files, notes, etc from your computer to your mobile and vice-versa. You can either download the app or search for the website. It is free to use.
Push2Run: This is a free program for windows. With this program, you can control your computer or laptop either with google home or smartphones having Google Assistant.
Steps to Control Your PC
Here are the steps to control your PC with Google Assistant:
Connects with Google Assistant on Your Phone
To connect with the Google Assistant, you need to follow step by step instructions. So, here we go:
Step 2: Download and install the Push2Run application on your computer. Allow necessary changes in the window for Push2Run.
Step 3: Now open the Pushbullet website on your computer and sign in with the same account. After that, go to settings in the left navigation bar. you will see the account option. Click on your account.
Step 4: Now scroll down to find the “Access Tokens” option. Click on the “Create Access Token” option. You will get a string of keywords. Don’t share it with anyone.
Step 5: Next, open the Push2Run program on your computer. Push2Run can act on your command only if it is connected to Pushbullet. So in the options column click on the Pushbullet. On the right site, you will find the settings for Pushbullet. Click on the “Enable Pushbullet” option.
Now copy the keyword from Pushbullet and paste it in the API box. Copy what is written in “Text Filter” for further use. Now press “OK“.
Step 6: Now open up the IFTTT website on your computer and sing up with the same account. On the right site, you can see the icon of a person’s head. Click on that icon and go to create. Now look for the “+” and click on it.
Step 7: After that, search for Google Assistant and click on it. Here you have to create a trigger. There are four options for creating a specific trigger. Now select “Say a phrase with a text ingredient” to create a trigger.
Step 8: To create a trigger, you have to type the command you want to give your computer. While doing this, remember that $ is for the work you want your computer to execute. Once you are done, click on the “Create Trigger” option.
Step 9: On the next page, you have to create action. For that, click on the “then that” part.
Now search for the Pushbullet option and click to open it. Click on the “push a note” option.
Here, you have to paste the text you copied in the Push2Run section. Now click on “Create Action“. Finally, click finish.
Step 10: You have established a connection between Google Assistant on your phone and your computer. Now if everything is ok then the computer should follow your command. You can try by saying “Ok Google, tell my pc to open the notepad“. If it runs, the notepad will open on your computer. You can see “Pushbullet connection is good” at the bottom of the Push2Run program.
Add Tasks to Push2Run
You can decide tasks for your computer to execute. For that, you need to follow some steps:
Step 1: Open the Push2Run program. Now click on the “Action” and go to the “Add” option. Now you have to define the work.
Step 2: For example, you want to search for something on Google. For that, in the “Listen for” section add the voice command you will say such as: look for $, search for $ ( here $ stands for the query you want to search). In the open section paste this: https://google.com/search?q=$. This will enable your pc to search on Google. Now click ok and you are ready to command your pc.
Step 3: I have added some task to Push2Run. Similarly, you can add to the Push2Run program.
Step 4: Even you can switch off you pc with Google assistant. In the “open” field, write shutdown.exe and keep parameters as /s /t 20 /c “requested by Google Assistant”. Here, /s means shutdown, /t 20 means shutdown after a timeout of 20 seconds and/c means syntax for comments.
