How to Add a User Account on Chromebook

Have you ever thought of adding another user to your Chromebook? If, Yes! Then read the article till the end. Adding a second user account on a Chromebook enables users to carry out their own workflow without sharing any data. So, the user can not access others’ Google account data.

Here we will dive into; how to add a user account on Chromebook. How to enable guest mode for the guest user for your Chromebook. Also, we will discuss, how to remove a user account if you have a user account that is not required anymore.

How to Add a User Account on Chromebook

On Chromebook, there are two types of user accounts. One for the regular user and another one for the occasional user. Let us discuss them one by one.

1. Add a User Account on Chromebook

If you are hesitant to share a Chromebook with others as it serves as your personal computer for browsing the internet. You can add a new user account, so they can not have access to your emails, images, and browsing history because of its close connectivity with your Google account.

Note:- This is recommended if the user uses your Chromebook on regular basic. For guest users, you can enable guest mode or create a guest account. 

Here are the steps you can follow to add a new user account on your Chromebook:

Step 1: First, turn on your Chromebook to access the login screen. If you are already logged in, click the “Sign Out” button on the quick settings panel to access it.

Step 2: You will get the Login Screen. Click the “Add Person” button to add a new user account on your Chromebook.

Step 3: Select the user type for whom you would like to add a user account. Then click on “Next” to continue.

Once you have added the new account on the login screen, select the account and enter your password to log in. Now you are ready to use it.

2. Enable a Guest Mode on your Chromebook

The Guest Mode is a handy feature to give your Chromebook to guest users. It allows you to share your Chromebook without creating a user account.

To enable a guest mode on your Chromebook. You can follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Open the “Settings” apps on your Chromebook. For that, open “App Drawer” and select “Settings.” Or else; you can also access “Settings” from the quick setting menu.

Step 2: The settings window will appear. Select “Security and Privacy” and click on the “Manage other people” option.

Step 3: On the next screen, you will find an option to enable the Guest mode. To enable it, turn on the toggle next to “Enable Guest Browsing” on your Chromebook.

Step 4: Click the “Sign Out” button on the quick settings panel to access the login screen.

Step 5: On the login screen, click the “Browse as guest” button to access the guest account on your Chromebook. Now you’ll be able to use the Chromebook in Guest mode.

Note:- In guest mode, your history or files won’t be saved. If you needed files, don’t forget to save them to other storage devices.

How to Remove a User Account on Chromebook

If the added user account is not required anymore, you can remove it from your Chromebook. For that, follow the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Go to the login screen. Here you’ll get all the available accounts.

Step 2: Locate the account you want to remove and click on the down arrow next to it.

Step 3: You’ll get an option to “Remove Account” button. Click on it and confirm to remove the account and everything associated with it, including files and local data.
