Microsoft has been upgrading itself from every point of view; User Interface being the biggest one. They have introduced the feature to auto-hide the taskbar from Windows 95. But since the dawn of Windows XP, this feature has come to use very properly with more advanced graphics options available. Here, in this article, we will discuss how to auto-hide the taskbar in Windows 10.
The taskbar in the Windows OS has always been a very useful part. Because it makes toggling between different windows quite easy for beginners. But it may cause some distractions from time to time while writing something or doing something else. Hence, comes the feature to auto-hide the taskbar in Windows 10.
People have started using laptops more and more for media playing, be it a video or a slideshow. Moreover, a lot of animation and related activities are done on the monitor. These require a bigger screen, and the taskbar is something people do not want to see in any position.
Windows has defined four positions for the taskbar to be displayed. For instance, the top, bottom, right and left edge of the display unit (monitor).
Users can modify this as per his/ her wish by accessing the taskbar settings option and then changing the “Taskbar location on-screen”.
How to Auto-Hide the Taskbar in Windows 10
There are two modes of display in Windows 10, the desktop mode and the tablet mode. Those who use a touch screen laptop usually access tablet mode. So it is pretty clear since the display modes are different, the settings will be different too. But the feature to auto-hide the taskbar is available for both.
1. Auto-Hide The Taskbar in Tablet Mode
People who are new to the OS, must not use the tablet mode. Because this design is a bit more complicated for such people without any prior knowledge about the navigations. Rest can use this easily.
Following are the steps to auto-hide the taskbar in tablet mode:
Step 1: While the display is not in tablet mode, right-click on the taskbar.
Step 2: Go to Taskbar settings.
Step 3: Thereafter, toggle the “Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode” option.
Finally, after following the above-stated steps, tablet mode with the taskbar hidden will become available. By hovering the finger to the edge where the taskbar seems to remain set, it will pop out and again go away after its use.
2. Auto-Hide The Taskbar in Desktop Mode
This is the most common way of using Windows OS, so navigation in this mode is more common to people, unlike the tablet mode. There are two ways to auto-hide the taskbar in this mode.
The first method is as follows:
Step 1: Firstly, go to Settings from the Start menu.
Step 2: Then, go to Personalization.
Step 3: Thereafter, go to the Taskbar option.
Step 4: Toggle the “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode” option.
After this, desktop mode with the taskbar hidden will be available. By taking the cursor to the edge where the taskbar is already set will pop out the taskbar and again pop off after it is used.
Automatically hide the taskbar
Most people usually practice the second method. It is a more common method. This does not include the Settings menu. This is actually a shortcut to auto-hide the taskbar in desktop mode.
Following are the steps for using this method:
Step 1: Right-click on the displayed taskbar.
Step 2: Go to the Taskbar Settings option.
Step 3: Then, toggle the “Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode” option.
And it is all set to get rid of the taskbar while concentrating more on the movie or designing work.
Microsoft has been working day in and day out to enhance every single end-user feature. Their dedication is pretty evident from the upgrades that are being added up to whatever there was before. Windows being one of the widely used Operating Systems around the world this kind of minute change too can make a great difference.
This feature to auto-hide the taskbar is one of the features which most people may not think about in the beginning but later on in many situations it is much required as the taskbar can be a distraction for many. Hence these methods can be very useful for people using both the desktop mode and the tablet mode as well.
