Top 10 Popular Programming Languages

1. Java

If you have some knowledge about programming languages then you must have heard about this popular programming language called Java. Initially released in 1995, Java is a core element of the house of sun microsystems.

Ruling the industry for two decades, the programming language has a lot of applications. It is extensively used in a server web application and also the core programming language for Android App Development. The reason why Java has got enormous attention is due to its platform-independent feature.

Talking about syntax, it is somewhat relatable to C and C++. However, when it comes to low-level operations Java does not support.

2. C

After Java, another popular programming language that strikes in our mind is C Programming Language. Bell labs hold the accolades for developing this language.

Despite being a low-level language C language has been extensively used to write thousands of applications. Besides that, C language also gives access to various resources in the system.

Most of the newer programming languages borrow Syntax from C Programming. Even though C is one of the oldest programming languages, but most of the languages are built around its features, like C# and C++.

3. C++

Definitely while talking about C the next thing that pops up in your mind is C++. C + + was released in 1983 and is an upgraded version of the C language that is based on the concept of object-oriented programming.

It is ruling the industry for more than three decades and has been used to design many applications and projects. From E-Commerce, web application, telecom services to processing engines, C++ have been widely used in this field.

4. Python

Coming to the high-level programming language, another language that tops the list is Python.  This is named as the fastest growing language in the industry due to it’s easy to learn features.

One can easily learn this language and get started with it. Python has a lot of applications in high-level programming such as machine learning and data analysis.

5. Visual basic

Next in the list is visual basic. Being an object-oriented programming language, Visual Basic has garnered the attention of many programmers since its release in 2002.

As of now, it is a core component of Visual Studio and it comprises of ranges of development application running from visual basic to C++.

6. PHP

Started in 1995, PHP presently known as Hypertext Preprocessor is one of the most powerful languages in the industry.

PHP has been extensively used to design web pages and create applications. Apart from this, it is also applicable in database connectivity, for example, Facebook, Wikipedia etc has the application of PHP.

PHP is quite easy and the syntaxes are also quite easy as compared to other programming languages. This is the reason why PHP is often favoured to create interactive and dynamic web pages incorporating HTML.

7. JavaScript

People mess up Java with JavaScript and often leaves with the wrong notion that both of the languages are similar type.

Well to clear your view, JavaScript has also been released in 1995 but is a completely different language compared to Java.

Above all, the application of JavaScript is also different and is widely used for web applications. In the recent past, the concept of Ajax that is Asynchronous Javascript and XML has helped JavaScript to reach the zenith in making robust web applications.

8. Object Pascal

Have you ever heard of Delphi? If you have not come across this language, then remember that it is built around Pascal programming language, Object Pascal.
Pascal was developed by Niklaus Wirth and is a cross-compilation.

Delphi is the successor of Turbo Pascal and has got a wide usage in application development tools in operating systems like Windows. The reason why Pascal must be kept in top 10 programming language is due to its object-oriented programming features.

There are many software that has been written with Pascal language, some of them are Nero, Skype, Oracle, SQL, Developer, Etc.

9. Ruby

While talking about the top 10 programming languages of all time, we cannot ignore Ruby which was initially released in 1995.

Being an open-source programming language Ruby is one of the easiest languages to learn. Build around the natural Syntax, one can easily read and write Ruby language to execute any application.

10. Typescript

If you are not sound with the various programming languages, then typescript might be the one that you have not come across.

Developers say that it is comparable to JavaScript as it encompasses similar the syntax. Developed by Microsoft this language has been running successfully for the past 11 years and will definitely get much more attention in the coming future.

Most of the developers have cited out that the reason being Typescript getting popular is due to the fact that there are some similarities to JavaScript.
