Today we are presenting this article on applications of internet of things. This is one of the trending topics in the tech world today. IoT or the internet on things is the term for connections between things on the internet. It refers to the connection of objects to each other and also with humans through the internet.

As it can adjust to any technology, IoT has so many practical applications. You can use IoT with any technology that is capable of providing relevant information. Even we can use IoT in areas where we need to monitor and control from a distance.

Top 8 Application of Internet of Things

As we have mentioned, IoT is comfortable with almost every technology. Nowadays, so many companies from different sectors are using this. Let’s discuss the top 8 applications of the internet of things in different sectors.

1. Wearable

Virtual glasses, fitness brands that monitor heartbeats and calorie expenditure, or GPS tracking belts are examples of wearable. During the past few years, the demand for these has increased at least two times. All these devices use the internet of things technology. Companies such as Samsung, Apple, and Google are making these products available in the market. They have claimed the use of the internet of things technology.

These wearable are small and energy-efficient devices, equipped with sensors. Applications of internet of things make those devices lightweight, high performing, and fast. Also, IoT automates the calculations of these devices. Useful measurements that are the pillar of smart devices are possible for IoT applications.

Nowadays, wearable technology is allowing multiple tasking. For example, users can record videos and answer calls with a smart-watch. These are happening due to the application of the internet of things.

2. Health

Internet of things allows the user to monitor and control something from a distance. Applications of the internet of things in healthcare depend on this advantage. Doctors use IoT in wearables and sensors connected to patients.

These allow doctors and nursing stuff to monitor patients’ condition from anywhere. Even when doctors and nursing stuff are not available, these devices monitor the patients. With IoT and sufficient programming, these devices can alert the doctors when necessary. Thus internet of things helps to improve patient care.

Also, it prevents lethal events in high-risk patients. Also, using IoT technology, hospitals are offering smart beds. These beds are equipped with special sensors. They observe vital signs, blood pressure, and oxygen level, and body temperature.

3. Traffic Monitoring

Applications of the internet of things in traffic management are relatively new. The collaboration between vehicular traffic management technology and IoT is still under trial. However, this concept of traffic management with the internet of things is the pillar of the smart city.

Almost all the developed country is working on a smart city project. We also use our mobile phones to collect data about roads and traffic through Google Maps. Internet of things makes this feature available for us in collaboration with Google Map.

At the same time, it takes information regarding the conditions of different roads. Now, developers are collecting this data to contribute to traffic management. So, IoT has a both-ended beneficial effect in traffic management.

4. Fleet Management

Surprisingly, the internet of things helps to establish a connection between fleet vehicles. To establish interconnection between fleets, you just need to install sensors in those vehicles.

The application of the internet of things helps to determine the geolocation, performance analysis, telecommunication control, and fuel-saving. Also, it helps the drivers to determine the safest and fastest route for their vehicle.

The sensors having IoT technology helps to get every necessary detail regarding the boat. Even those who are not present in it can monitor the vehicle.

5. Agriculture

Smart farming is one of the trending subjects of research today. The concept of smart farming stands for using more and more technology in agriculture. In usual farming, a farmer has to determine the nature of the soil. Through the application of the internet of things, analysts can get so much data from the soil.

Information like moisture, acidity level, presence of vital nutrients, and temperature can be obtained. All of these are essential in farming. In smart agriculture, the farmer needs to plant some sensors having IoT technology in the farming field. These devices will help them to monitor all the chemical characteristics.

IoT helps to control irrigation, make water use more efficient, and specify the best times to start sowing. Even it helps to discover the presence of diseases in the soil. Thus, farmers can prevent plant diseases. Overall product is increased efficiency.

6. Water Supply

IoT devices can effectively track the data related to the water supply. A sensor connected to the water meter can collect, process, and analyze supply data. It helps to understand the behaviour of customers, detect faults in the supply and quality of the water.

Also, it allows consumers to track their consumption. Even these devices can send alerts to the consumers in case of excess consumption.

7. Hospitality

Application of the internet of things in the hotel industry has boosted up effectively nowadays. Electric keys are the perfect example. Hotel authority sends these keys directly to the devices of the guests. They can get those keys after the online booking of the room.

Also, guests can order food and other personal hygiene supplies online. With these electronic keys, the check-out process is also automated. Hotel managers can monitor and control everything from check-in to check-out with IoT.

8. Maintenance Management

This is one of the areas where the applications of the internet of things are extensive. In maintenance management, a combination of sensors and software specialized in CMMS are used. This combination helps to extend the useful life of physical assets.

Also, it guarantees asset reliability and availability. These sensors collect software data and design them to address their needs. The application areas of these sensors are almost unlimited. The real-time monitoring of physical assets helps to determine when a measurement is out-of-range or not.

Conclusion

Applications of the internet of things are changing the world rapidly. Almost every field has its beneficial effects. Here we have discussed the top 8 areas where IoT is used is very high. Also, some other areas are starting to use IoT recently.
