What is an IP Address?

IP address comes in the form of numerical identity that assigns to every device joined in online networking. Bear in mind, every device has a unique IP address and these are separated through dots. For example-192.168.10.26.

Apart from this, an IP address is a part of online addressing which is logical & can search easily by people rather than a Mac address.

The IP address has two versions. These are IPv4 and IPv6. Continue reading to grab every possible information regarding them.

IPv4: This IP address has 32 bits. (means 8 lengths*4octet),4 Octet,4 Billion (). IPv4 address can be generated & has a 0 to 255 range. For instance, 192.168. 155.155.

IPv6: It has 128 bits(means16 length*8 octet), 8 Octet,340 trillion (). The range of IPv6 addresses lies between 0 to FFFF (65535). This type of IP address can be written as, ‘3FBB:1806:4545:2:100:L8FF: FE21:97.’IPv6 has a hexadecimal combination and is a unique IP address rather than the first version.

Types of IP Address

Here in this section, we will discuss the types of IP Addresses. These are the types of common Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. Have a look.

1. Private IP Address

When you want to simultaneously connect two devices with a computer, for example, you want to connect your speaker, mobile phones with your computer, by using a Private IP address you can easily do so.

Besides, by utilizing a Private IP address, you can transfer data from mobile to computer if you have a LAN network. This address is not routable on the internet and also not chargeable.

Private IP Address Range:

a) Class A IP Range : 10.0.0.0-10.255.255.255

b) Class B IP Range :172.16.0.0-172.31.255.255

c) Class C IP Range :192:168.0.0-192.168.255.255

2. Public IP Address

Public IP Addresses are enabled on the internet so we can see the address publicly. By using this address, you can start a business on the internet.

It is a payable IP address and will be provided by your Internet service provider and for every device, there’s a unique Internet Protocol address. Here, we mentioned the range of Public IP addresses.

1. Class A IP: 1.0.0.0 to 9.255.255.255 & 11.0.0.0-126.255.255.255

2. Class B IP:128.0.0.0 to 172.15.255.255 & 172.32.0.0 to 191.255.255.255, and

3. The Class C IP :192.0.0.0-192.167.255.255 & 192.169.0.0 to 223.255.255.255

3. Dynamic IP Address

The Dynamic IP address changes constantly every time assigned by the ISP customer. Though the address is not more powerful, it is a standard type address assigned when we purchase internet connectivity.

4. Static IP Address

Do you know that a Static IP address never changed? Yes, it’s true. The network administrators manually input this IP address. It will be the same every time when you connect. Static IP addresses are mainly used for manageable small networks.

Once the manufacturer-assigned your device with a Static IP address, it will remain the same until your network architecture changes.

Conclusion

As we discuss earlier that an I.P address will be required whenever you want to connect your computer to the internet or other devices. This is used to share and transfer files, data, documents from one computer to another. We hope this passage gives you a brief idea about IP addresses and clears your all doubts associated with them.
