Emacs or EMACS is a free and open source text editor for all the major operating system. You can download and install emacs for Windows, Linux and MacOS. And also it is among the oldest free and open source projects still under development. Here we are going to learn how to install Emacs text editor on Windows 10 computers.

At the time of writing this article Emacs 26 was the latest version of Emacs.
How to Install Emacs Text Editor on Windows 10
To download and install Emacs 26 follow these simple steps.
Step 1: Open any browser and search for Emacs and open the link from gnu.org
Step 2: On the download page you have to select your operating system after that it will redirect you to the download page. There just click on main GNU FTP server. (You can directly click this link)
Step 3: After that you will find a list of all the Emacs release, just select the latest one.
Note:- At the time of writing this article Emacs 26 was the latest version of Emacs.
Step 4: Now you will find different download option, just click on emacs-26.1-x86_64.zip to download.
Step 5: You will download a zip file. You have to extract that zip. After extracting open the Emacs folder inside it you will find bin folder, there look for Emacs Application and create a desktop shortcut.

Note:- We don’t need to install Emacs, you can use the shortcut to launch the Emacs Text Editor.
